Responsive Gardens

Your Path to a Beautiful, Functional, and Sustainable Garden

More Info…

Responsive Gardens is the home of Liz Braithwaite. For more about me see here. I am a landscape architect, horticulturist, and gardener. My first priority is to work directly with you to achieve your goals. I also have a love of sustainable landscaping including permaculture, water-wise landscaping/xeriscaping, ecological gardens, kitchen gardens, food forests, and native plants and ecosystems. All my work seeks to establish beautiful, functional, and sustainable gardens.

Education & Experience

I have an extensive education including degrees in horticulture, landscape architecture, and permaculture. I’m trained in gardening, design, and sustainable practices. I have been working with homeowners for over 15 years and gardening for 20. I am continually seeking to improve as a designer and gardener, and love to impart my knowledge to others.

Local Knowledge

I have lived in Utah most of my life, and have focused my design work and education on doing what is best in the Intermountain West. Landscape and gardening challenges are unique in this area, and I have focused my work on responding to the local conditions to get great results.

Flexible Services

I will work directly with you to get you exactly the services you need. Educational services include coaching, workbooks, online courses, and a variety of resources. Design services are offered in two tracks: inspiration and construction. I can work with you directly in your yard, and also enjoy working remotely if you are outside my service area.

FAQs

Where are you located?

I live in Lehi, Utah and offer services online and within 25 miles of Lehi. Because garden advice differs based on climate, I encourage you to find local designers and coaches to your area. If you live in Utah Valley, (or have a garden in a cold, semi-arid, zone 5-7 climate, with alkaline soils) I’m the perfect fit.

How much do services cost?

It depends! Rather than offer set prices, I will work with you and your budget. I can easily get you the details of how much my services will cost after you reach out. I will not start billing until after we’ve established the scope of work. Pricing can be as low as $150: most design packages range from $500-2,000, and coaching ranges from $150-400.

Who do you work with?

I primarily work with homeowners who are looking to upgrade their landscapes and gardens. I have also worked with commercial clients, non-profits, and community gardens. Reach out to see if my services would be a good fit.

Do you offer landscape installation?

No, but I will work with you to get the right documentation to share with your landscape contractor so you get an awesome implementation of your design. I often have recommendations for good people to work with and can help work directly with landscape contractors. I can also give you advice on how to find a good contractor and garden center. Occasionally, I can help with a small job by buying and placing plants.

Do you do landscape maintenance?

I’m considering offering specialized landscape maintenance and plant delivery services. I do not do lawn maintenance, and I am only accepting local clients. If you are local to the Lehi, UT area, feel free to reach out!

Are you a landscaper designer, horticulturist, landscape architect, or master gardener?

☑️Landscape Architect: I am a licensed landscape architect in the state of Utah, and have a Master’s in Landscape Architecture.

☑️Landscape Designer: The majority of my career I have considered myself a landscaped designer. I hold a Permaculture Design Certificate.

☑️Horticulturist: I started out my career in horticulture and have BS degree in Ornamental Horticulture.

✖️Master Gardener: This is actually a volunteer training program and not a professional qualification. I have actually had far more than the training then a typical master gardener.
